The Conjuring Movie Review

With the imminent release of the sequel, I have decided to review one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

No one is allowed to play Hide and Clap around me. Ever.

The Conjuring is the “true” story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), paranormal investigators who investigate strange occurrences surrounding a family in Rhode Island.

If you ever listened to the short lived Movie Guide Podcast that my former roommate and I used to record, it is not secret that The Conjuring is one of my favorite horror movies ever. We talked about it all the time.  It’s a near perfect horror movie.  There’s a ton of real tension that builds and pays off with some big time scares.  This movie scares the living crap out of me every time I watch it.  But what makes this movie great is that it goes past being an excellent horror movie, and is just a great film overall. It’s very well directed and shot, which when done as well as it is here, can really add to the intensity of the movie. The acting is all great, and Partick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are very believable as both paranormal inverstigators and as husband and wife. Whether you believe something like this actually happened (I have my doubts), the story is nonetheless intriguing and enjoyable to watch unfold.

To be honest with you, I can’t think of anything really wrong with this movie. Yeah, it relies on a few horror movie clichés but they work and are necessary in a movie like this. So I can’t fault the movie for that. It scares me almost as much now as it did when I first saw it (I’ve watched it probably 7 or 8 times) and I like it more and more every time. It is definitely worth a watch if you’ve never seen it. Even if you aren’t the biggest horror movie fan, if you are just looking for a good movie, this won’t let you down. I didn’t think I would go this high with it, but since I can’t think of anything wrong with the movie, I don’t see how I can do anything else. 5/5 for The Conjuring.

What do you think of The Conjuring? Are you excited for the sequel? Let me know in the comments.

    1. I obviously respect your opinion and appreciate the comment. I have to disagree with you however. I think it holds up big time on repeat viewings, much more than most horror movies. Just my opinion though
